Large brown bugs--

Hi All,

I am interested in hearing if anyone in the TX, LA, MS, AL, or FL Gulf Coast has seen large, brown bugs eating their fig leaves at night in the Spring-May, or June.

They look like our Junebugs, but have a blockier abdomen, it seems to me. I saw them for the first time last year at this time. I found them munching away on the fig leaves of my inground Celeste tree, out back. They were all over it last year.

This year, just tonight, I went out to look at a bell pepper plant out back and saw one of the bugs on it, so I picked it off (With a tissue--I don't like to touch bugs. These grab me back when I grab them!), then went to look at the fig tree and there were several on the tree, which I picked off, as well. They and the tissues go into a plastic bag, which I throw away.

These bugs remind me of the brown Junebugs, but slightly different. Does anyone know if they are the Junebugs? If so, I didn't know they eat fig leaves.

I suppose I should call UL and see if an entomologist (SP?) could look at the bugs and tell me what they are, but thought someone else here might have seen these bugs and know what they are.

Thanks,

Vivian
