We've been going through this for the last two years and I was getting worried last fall, but thanks to our enormous snow pack, no frost, and one good three day rain this spring the ground has had a good soaking. You can almost hear everything sigh with relief, eh?
I hope you get enough to do some real good :^)

I'm happy for you Marcia, but keep it over there!! ;o) (Sharon, the band that hit us must have missed you. Perhaps you could have a little isolated rain cloud...like Bad-luck Shleprock off the Flintstones. ;o)

The few days of rain we got a little over a week and a half ago brought the water table up so high that ever since it stopped we have been sucking 2-3 (10 gal.) shop vacs full of water out of the basement every day. Today is the first day it's shown any sign of slowing down, so, fingers crossed, the water tables is getting back to it's normal level! It's actually been seeping in through the basement floor. :-( Could be worse though, our next-door neighbor has been taking out 4 10 gallon shop vacs in the morning, and another 4 in the evening, everyday.

After the rain, DH pulled the cover off our well, the stoned in part of the well starts about 15' below the soil/surface level, and goes down another 12 or so feet. It's usually full to just under where the stoned in part starts (about 13' below the surface). After the 'great monsoon' it was up to four feet below the surface, and stayed there for almost a week. BLECK!!

Shelley, those are quite the pictures!! I haven't seen any farmers out in the fields in our neck of the woods, probably for fear of the same thing.

Glad to hear that you're finally getting some rain Marcia! I'm sure that's a HUGE relief.

Shelley, that is definitely a farmer's nightmare all right! Yesterday was a drizzly day for us here. It came at a good time as I think most of the farmers around here are done seeding.

Our well has been dry since Oct. I don't really mind hauling water (you do what you have to, right?), but I was/am worried about those fires.
We also have a small pond out back which has been really low. I have had to scare a pair of ducks who I think have been trying to nest there....I don't want them stuck with ducklings and no water!

So many years it's the other way around, with you all in a drought situation and us getting constantly poured on. I've said it before - there should be a way of bringing water from where it isn't wanted to where it is - they have gas pipelines, so why not water ones?

Shelley, what an awful situation for the farmers! I hope it dries out a bit so they can get their machines unstuck and get their plowing done.

Verena, our son is trying to put a well in on our (soon to be his) property north of here. They went down 24 feet and only got a trickle before they hit bedrock. So i guess they'll be drilling. The expense mounts!

My ruse with the garbage can didn't work - the can fell over! Oh well - i did fill the watering cans so i'll be a bit ahead.

Marcia, glad you finally got rain. We have been getting regular rain and not too much - gasp, is that possible on the prairies? :0 Knock wood it doesn't go too much one way or the other. In years we have just the right amount of rain, OMG does everything grow like stink.

Shelley, wow what a mess... I don't even know what they would pull that tractor out with. :0(

Finally getting some rain today. Just showers but every little bit helps the garden. Now the forest fires are a different matter - need a couple of weeks of good steady rain for that OR for Shelley & Verena to send some of theirs our way!

I don't know why were not getting any rain, all around me, I see clouds pouring rain on thy neighbor, but it just stops by my house, drops of a few drops and goes off to the east. The sprinkler is on as I type.

Seridipity, yes I am a recent transplant to Murillo (4 years). My husband is a born and bred Murillo-boy.
We will be drilling a well also. Arrggg.

We have not had any rain this spring. We are just really wet from the snow and flooding this spring.

I have a friend who's also lives in the Murillo area.

That is a cute song Brenda! They'll need a bulldozer or something with tracks to get that tractor out. You'd be amazed at what my dad has pulled out of the mud(or snow) with his bulldozer.;^) I bet that farmer may consider getting a tractor with tracks after this. My dad can go seeding a whole lot sooner after a major rain than a lot of farmers in the area.

That would be really nice the last few showers recently have helped quite a bit but I would be happy to see more rain. Many of my Clematis are coming along nicely with Dr. Ruppel already with one bloom.

Sorry I've been gone so long... this time last year I recieved what some would call a promotion but it just really over-loaded me with work. I barely was able to work on my garden last summer and unfortunately many of my perennials became crowded and died to some fungal problem. I didn't even get to winter sow anything this year. Fortunately changes have occured to free up much of my time and I'm back at it in the garden again and I can finally enjoy my hammock :)

Well, DH started farming today and the ground is a lot drier than I thought. He's really kicking up the dust. Oh I hope I don't have to go through another season of watering everything! Luckily our wells have never dried up...yet.

Brenda, I believe the farmer had other tractors try to get him out, but finally had to resort to getting a backhoe.

S*** here this morning. Gross. So I don't think ill be planting the garden this weekend. I think it only got down to -1 at the most though, so plants are fine and we could use the moisture. I guess this means book work and laundry catch-up day :^(

We missed the snow, thank goodness, but had 1' of rain over the weekend, with more forecast this week. I hope they're wrong, I really need to get the garden seeded. We had just a touch of frost this morning, but it looks like things were wet enough that nothing was damaged.

A week ago my sister and BIL had a house moved to their yard and my dad had to use his backhoe to push the truck, that had the house loaded on it, into position beside the new basement and foundation.

Because of the softness of the ground and the weight of the house, the truck was unable to move the house any closer on its own. Good thing, my dad had a backhoe available. I had no idea that a backhoe was so strong!

Also it is quite something to watch a house being moved!

Ugh, it's raining here again! Enough already! I can't believe there's not more standing in the fields and lawns, but the ground was so dry last fall, it must still be soaking in. And it's freeking chilly as usual. It's impossible to believe it will be June in a couple of days.

LOL Gil! I was thinking of reviving this thread tonight to say that i'm sick of it too! Yes, it's COLD! We had our plant sale today and we were freezing, let alone the plants. I think some of the ones that had been in greenhouses up until today had a bit of a rude awakening!

My complaint was morning after morning of frost and actually enjoyed the rain showers today. I am hoping June will be mild with no wild swings in the temps..yeah right...ppphhhhfffttt..savona

An older lady (upper 80s) told me yesterday that the temperatures were going to turn around and we'd have a hot dry summer. I would take that right about now! LOL
