Hi Bass,
Yes I have field mice chew the bark completely off around 6 of my covered stored fig trees a few years ago. They chewed out an area about 2 inches high just at the base of the trees. From then on before covering my trees I tear off a piece of
heavy duty aluminum foil and wrap it around the tree trunk from the dirt level. I make the piece long enough so that I can wrap it completely around at least two times. I also leave some of the bottom area not covered with the blankets so that I can tie it up to prevent the field mice from climbing up inside the blanket and dinning on the limbs and branches of the tree. HavenÂt had any problems ever since I started doing that. By the way the moth ball trick did not work for me.

Below is a photo showing exactly what I do.

Lou

Lou,
I like your Idea, and I'm sure that will prevent them from chewing the bark. Your figs are containerized and are kept indoor. It would be a lot of work to do this for the figs that are grown in ground, especially that they have more than one trunk.
Anyone tried something similar or different?
