Hmm, I think I get the same things on my grapes... or maybe it's whiteflies? Anyway, I've always done nothing in the past and the plants did fine, but I'd kind of like to get rid of them too, so the plants do great. If you use potassium salts (Safer's Soap) be sure to wash the salts off soon after they've dried or they can do a lot of damage to the leaves.

Don, I hear they are basically all leafhoppers on the vines. They don't really do damage but they are unsightly and give me the willies. I've tried the soap treatment but it is a daunting task and doesn't last long. :( I could just as easily cut her right to the ground in the fall and treat. VCs, as you know, take no time to grow back. :)

A friend here gets white flies bad and nukes them with malathion. Couple treatments does all.
