George, The garden center is in Paramus N.J.it is called Eisele's Nursery.The price was 39.95.What got my attention was the very skiny leaves.Then I read the description and it said an Italian sailor brought it from Italy many years ago.Looked very healthy.

The 2 sticks came from Jon. He has a picture of a skinny 5
fingered leaf on the figs4fun site. Below is the
OneGreenWorld site. The leaf shown there is not skinny at all.
Just looked at my rooted cutting and the leaves are shaped
somewhere in between. Guess immature leaves vary.

Mine originally came from One Green World last year.

My Stella is several years old and growing in a 15 gal pot. I too was intrigued by the Sailor fig but few reports are documented on the details of the fig or it's flavor. Last season it produced it's first 12 figs but they fell off in the fall. This spring, I have three breba figs on this same tree and they are about three inches long. They have endured some cool nights and very windy conditions thus far. If they ripen, I will post a forum note.
I am also going to try and take some photos. My cultivar came from One Green World and yes, the lobes of the leaves are thin and fingerlike, resembling those of Brunswick. This variety tends to sucker alot as well, which is good news for some friends of mine!

Good news! Just did a quick inventory and the 2nd Stella twig
from Jon (pitangadiego) rooted too, after all.
If you want it, it is yours. Just hope that the one I bought
break leaves soon. The other two that came with it from OGW
did. I just put a vented plastic bag over it, as pantelo
suggested in the 'Ty-Ty Nero not budding yet' thread.

Sorry to rain on your parade but I was out looking at my 6 figs and Stella was the only one that wasn't leafing out; in fact it looks dead to the ground. I didn't consider this a bad winter either. This was its third winter. It was small when I got it and it only got to 3' and had a couple of figs last year that fell off, then a couple more that almost ripened. So I can't give you a good report. Lattarula and Desert King are my favorites and Negrone is good when there is a mild winter and the brebas live through to ripen the next year, which happens increasingly thanks to global warming, apparently. Could do without the 100*F scorchers we got last year, though.
