We finally had a nice gentle rain here last night. I was soooo happy. Unlike southern Manitoba, it's been dry here.

I'm on vacation North that's how I managed to get the house cleaned too ;)

Right at the moment (not quite noon) we're under a thunderstorm watch down here. We had some rain yesterday, and a little hail just north. It's pretty wet, nice not to have to water the baby trees. By the way, Sharon, my oldest DS starts work in Wainwright in July, working for my friends at Davco. When we come up to visit, I'll have to try and meet you.

We had almost 1.5 inches within only about 3 hours yesterday evening. There was some hail mixed in as well, but nothing damaging. It was a real nice soaking that I for one am very happy to have although nothing was really drying out yet except for maybe the raised beds. There's more showers in the forecast.

So today it's cloudy but warm and calm. I'm trying to get a handle on the weeds that have sprung to life with a vengeance.

Ugh...I'll send some of ours to you...We're 'scheduled' for another four days of it, and the water table is still sitting about two inches higher than our basement floor. We've been flooded for over a month and a half now, and we can't even do anything about it >:o( Oh, and to make matters worse, sunday DH made me my raised garden beds, and I planted out all 2+ dozen of my tomato plants (which were 2+ feet tall and producing fruit already) and they promtly got flattened by 10 minutes of hail, less than an hour and a half after I finished planting them. >:o( Stupid computer didn't show any weather warnings, but I guess the TV had been flashing them for 3hrs and we just hadn't had it on.

Well there's my grumble grumble for the week. :oP

Sorry to here about your plants and your basement Verena.
After last years downpours ,I can relate all too well.
It's early, so the tomatoes should bounce back fine.

We really haven't had any rain to speak of this year. Except for the beds beside the house, nothing really needs it yet.
When I dug down to plant my roses and lilies, it was almost muddy yet.

Gee, Verena, that's sounds terrible. Where in the country are you situated? I know southern MB has been getting a lot of rain lately.
I hope you can get the basement situation resolved asap. We have a wood construction basement that flooded in a freak storm a couple of years ago. It was a nightmare.
The tomatoes will regrow, though, how disappointing to have them flattened so quickly. Mother Nature, eh?, she can be nasty.

That is awful Verena, hopefully your basement will dry up soon. We've had a pile of rain here too over the last week, so it can stop any time now. It poured again this evening, and they're calling for more on friday. I'd really like to be able to get out there and get all the stuff I've still got in pots planted out. Maybe tomorrow I can get to it.

That's not good news Verena.....hope you'll get some sun to dry up that water! Hugs

For sure Connie, it sure is nice not having to get the heavy hose out to water. It's something about the rain that makes everything much more greener and alive.
Wow, that would be awesome to meet you someday, just look for the acreage with lots of flowers, LOL!

When i saw the title of this post, my first thought was "Be careful what you wish for!" A month ago, i was wishing for rain too, and we got it with a vengeance. Now i'm hoping for several dry days in a row so that the kids can get their house moved on to the property. Last year we were spoiled with no mosquitoes because it was so dry, one of the good things about no rain. Silver lining - the water has come up in the lakes and when i get out to ours, i may actually be able to swim! :)

There were showers and hail all over our area yesterday - what you got depended on where you were. We had 1/10 at home, and 1" in town where I work, both places got a bit of hail, but nothing serious. Verena, did you get it again? I hate hail, even if things do come back. Seeing my plants damaged makes me want to cry.
Sharon, we're usually up your way at least once a year, but I suspect it will be a bit more often once Matt is living there - time will tell. I'm looking forward to meeting you sometime.

No more hail, thankfully, but mom got some 45 minutes north of us. (They're by Gull Lake, we're just south of Red Deer.) We did get more rain, but at least now everything's either in rubbermaids or up on dry land. We're pretty much just letting the basement sit as is (aside from vacuuming the water up a couple times a week to keep it from smelling to stale) and when the water table finally drops, DH is going to jackhammer trenches all around the floor inside and install weeping tile and a sump. (Glad he's handy!!) The neighbour is doing the same thing, but they've been here for 30 years and this is the first time they've ever had a problem with water in their basement...so I guess if this is a once in 30 year occurance, hopefully we'll never have to deal with it again.

(Mom felt bad about my tomatoes, so she surprised me today with 6 new ones...3 beefsteak and 3 early girl. :o) Mom alway's knows just what to do... :o)

My daughter showed me pictures today that her mother-in-law had sent from the rain in Calgary. Amazing!

Verena, you do know what will happen after your dh waterproofs your basement, don't you? Major drought! LOL Seriously, though, i hope it works. Must be such a pain!
