I don't grow it but I have heard of its invasive tendencies. I read that it will be less spreading if you situate it in dryer shade conditions so perhaps that is an option for you. I have never grown a plant inground with a bottomless container but imagine it would depend on the depth of the roots on the particular plant. It does look like a beautiful plant and I have often wished I had a spot for it.

I don't have any advice for you, but upon researching it a bit I felt that I would like to grow it. It does look very attractive. One site I found for the north gave it quite a positive review.
