It wasn't me...honest! As much as I like peas, I don't like pea vines.....

Have you checked your soil for cut worms? Peas are usually pretty tough, not much bothers them.

Don't think it was cut worms, they usually snip things off at ground level.. Gophers, haven't seen any, but we are close to the edge of town.. But this year there are lots of cats around, so the gophers should be staying away.. Will sprinkle egg shells just in case it's cut worms.. Thanks.. Jan

Wasn't me either. But it could have been all the little 5 yr olds in the little grandguy's class - they love it when i bring peas for snack! LOL

I have had the same problem for years.Finally came out one morning to catch about `15 birds in my peas!! After that year we've planted and then put chicken wire around the rows....no problems since!

Thanks.. I was starting to think that, as I noticed a sparrow nipping at the bean plants the other day but I can't see the peas from the house.. And I feed the birds, so there's always lots of them around.. I guess they need there greens too.. Thanks again...

I was going to blame the birds too, when the seedlings are just emerging. This thread reminded me of an occasion many many years ago when I was saving the very last snap peas of the season for a special dinner. On Friday night all was fine. Saturday afternoon the vines were discovered to be torn down and the actual peas scattered all over the ground. The pea pods were missing... The only evidence found at the crime scene was nibbled nubs of pods and some rabbit poop.
