Shelly, I hope that the surgery goes well and that you will recover quickly from it. Glad to hear that you were able to get all your planting done before your surgery date.

After you are finished driving 3 1/2 hours west to go to help Sharon, why don't you drive the 4 hours or so southeast and come and help Laurie and I plant all our new irises that we got yesterday?

I'm not done by a long shot, but maybe i need some help too, Shelley! The other day my mother-in-law came for a visit. She sat out on the patio with me. There were containers behind her, all kinds of hanging baskets in the gardens, geraniums lining the stairs, two patio tables littered with empty plant pots, and a 3/4 empty bale of promix by the tables. She looked at my three flats of unplanted annuals and the few things in my mini-greenhouse and asked when i was going to start planting!!!

LOL Marcia. I think I had a similar comment from my brother one year. It just seems like we wait and wait until it's safe to plant and then, once it is, it needs to be done "yesterday".

As for me, I think I am better than most years. I only have a few things left and two of them are cedars and two are vinca. I sort of reason to myself that it's most important to get the annuals in first because they only have this season to grow, but a tree or shrub is more a long term placement.

Still, I really should have planted my ornamental grass sooner, but last night there I was among the humidity and mosquitoes. Actually it wasn't that bad. That's sort of been my way - a few things every night.

Everything looks a bit mixed up in the yard, however, as we just had our roof re-shingled so I took all the plant pots away from the house and put them in the gazebo. It was like a mini conservatory.

Usually, I am done by now....but the garden has been strange this year. Somethings seem to be way ahead of most other years....and somethings seem really slow...I still have perennials popping up....ones that I thought were lost. I am happy about that actually...good thing, I didn't start planting replacements yet.

I saved most of the lilies to plant later...in case some would pop up slow.......but I have huge bare patches...so I am kind of losing hope .......and might start planting the lilies in these areas this weekend. I'm also getting some lilies from a friend this weekend....so I'll plant them right away as well.

I've planted all the annuals out. So thats one thing done. I bought another lilac......so that will probably get planted this weekend. Maybe I will finish the planting this weekend. Hopefully! Maybe??.....somebody tell me its not going to rain or storm!

I had a few minute, yesterday afternoon, so I went out to the garden....but there was a bear there.....so I kind of decided....gardening at that time...wasn't such a good idea. LOL!

I've got plenty of planting left to do. That darn snowstorm made me use up 2 weekends picking branches, and the dandelions got so far ahead of me...sigh. Sierra, bears must be one of the joys of living in B.C. My sister used to live in Revelstoke, and they often had bears going down the street in the fall, eating the fruit in the back yards as they went. She'd have to wait until her husband came home from work so there'd be another adult around before she could pick her plums, and by then it would be dark, so she picked them by flashlight. Now she's near Pincher Creek, Alberta, and learning how to garden all over again.

I've only got a few containers of wintersowers left to plant out, the non-sprouters will either get dumped or put away hided in a shady corner incase they sprout next year. The few containers that have sprouted I just want them to grow a little bit more before I plant them out in the ground, one being a Bleeding Heart Vine which I really hope makes it considering only 2 sprouted.

To be realistic, I'll never be finished planting. LOL, heck I still have my ornamental grass order yet to come in, plus I want to watch Extra Foods next week when they clear all their left over perennials. As well, I have a whole wack of Irises coming in July, as well, I want to order some, fall bulbs, Siberian Irises, Martagons and Peonies in the fall. And then it starts all over again......

Me neither! I've almost got my indoor sown stuff all planted, and just started planting the wintersowing. I have daylilies coming hopefully this week from Montfort (got an e-mail on Tuesday that they were shipped), and I need to find places to put everything!! I've gotten behind on my quack grass clearing efforts because of all the #@&*% rain, and now the mosquitoes are bad!

I am not nearly done planting either, perennials or annuals. I am glad that I am not alone with this 'problem.'

With this pneumonia I didn't have the energy to get out there. I had a hard time even bending over to weed. Somehow the lungs get compressed then and you just can't breathe. So, the last four weeks have been 'shot'.

Laurie and I were talking the other day and she just asked me if I had any idea on how many perennials I bought this year. I told her that since none of them were planted out yet it was easy to count them and know. 213. ahhhhhh! Didn't realize that the 2 or 3 from here and the 5 or so from there would add up to be that many.

So, yesterday I planted out 33 of 213 perennials into empty spots in one flowerbed. At that rate in one week I should be done. Maybe....if it doesn't rain...if we don't have company...if I don't go to town to get groceries...if...if...

Today I am concentrating on planting up all the rest of the pots. The annuals in the greenhouse desperately need to get outside into their containers or into the ground somewhere.

And I have strawberries ready to pick! And I am not finished weeding them, yet!

I've gotten so behind this year what with one thing and another. The weather has been so odd, and now all this darn rain (it's doing it again!!). Dh cut part of the grass last weekend but my part has become a small field. I have to do all the stuff around plants and beds, mainly 'cause i don't trust him to! Should i cut it Saturday morning or do some planting? I have a commitment of a couple hours on Saturday and pretty much all day Sunday. We have an appointment in town on Monday and Tuesday is Grade 8 grad. Wednesday might be free but Thursday is the staff party. I think after that i might be okay.

And of course there's the small matter of spending a couple of hours a day playing with my new toy next door.... :)

Marcia, I think we would all be doing the same if our new granddaughter lived next door. Enjoy her while you can!

I know...Maybe she needs fresh air? Just borrow her for a while, put her inside a mosquito-netted stroller and have her beside you while you work in your flowerbeds. That way you can enjoy her while you get your planting done.

Still planting!! And loving every minute of it! This was my first year w/s'ing and worked pretty good I think! Going to plan on more perennials next year though. Still, I have no where near the amount you have Brenda - 213!!!! Man, I'd be out there till Thanksgiving and still not be done. I went out last night to give it a good try and it started to rain, again! My mushroom crop is doing very well this year, did I mention that! Wasn't a total waste of an evening - picked some rhubarb and made a couple of pies. Gardening and pies! Well, need I say more ;)

I do have a dilemma however. I ordered two new Clematis - Princess Diana and Mrs. P.T. Markham (I do believe that is what its called). But now I don't know where to put them! I've always tried to plant them against the house and have had lots of success over the years....but I can't put anything more there right now! Do I dare plant...gasp!...out in the open? I was thinking of having an obelisk over by our patio and putting one there but that still leaves one.....decisions, decisions. And then all these annuals I w/s'd....and I'm thinking about bulbs for the fall - definitely need more of those.

...so many flowers, so little time. Life should always be so tough.

Ahh Marcia what a sweet distraction she is. Soon enough she will be like my 5 year old granddaughter Brenna who was in the local co-op with her Daddy buying her own shovel (trowel) so she can help grandma in the garden..just too cute. I am done planting now except a few more pansies and tidy tips to transplant. I saved a few plants for my DIL and am going this evening to help her and that should wrap up all the planting for this year..well except the odd plant I will HAVE to rescue from wally world etc..lol savona

Darius' older sister is already assisting me in the garden! LOL Except she takes MY trowel and then i have to go searching for it!

Hi all

Well, everything that I had lying around is now planted. However, I still need to pick up some hostas and more lamium to fill in the planters by the patio (I lost all the hostas that were in there this winter) as well as some clematis and maybe a planted pot or two for the patio since I ran out of pots. I am waiting till the 18th to use up my "Dutch" dollars from Vanderwees. Hopefully, they will still have a fairly good selection.

I'm about halfway done. I was finished my annuals and then I had to pop in and grab some plants for a donation (planted up a pot for hubbys' sporting clay shoot), when I noticed that they had a few things I didn't see before. So of course I had to pick them up. Tomorrow I start my perennials, that should be a several day thing if not more. I do have two friends popping by for plants in the afternoon which will break things up, plus I want to pick up some weed and feed and mow the lawn. Busy, busy day over here.

To I- heart(love?)- flowers. Clematis on an obelisk would be wonderful!! Why not get two and put the other somewhere in your garden. It would provide a wonderful exclamation point and Clematis love to have their roots shaded. In fact, Costco here in Edmonton was selling them in pots with obelisks.

And I'm one of those that's never done planting either. Seems I come home with something new every time I'm near a garden centre. I just put in some tiny but wonderful emerald green junipers that will screen my neighbors dining room windows and while replacing a cart after shopping for one of my clients yesterday, I came home with a Morden Fireglow rose!!!
