rain!!!!!!!

Finally.RAIN! Since last night, we've gotten 1.75" of much needed rain. We were 15" below normal yesterday for the year. That's at the weather center, here in Guntown, I'd say we were closer to 20" below normal.

I've had my newer daylilies in pots and I really believe that watering them and having them in the pots, is the only reason I've managed to keep them going. My clay soil is like concrete, cracked open concrete. In my established beds, I've added compost and I am trying to give them atleast an inch of water a week. This can take 3 days of watering and dragging hoses everywhere. I'm sure many of you know what I'm talking about.

I sure do praise God for this rain. I hope the ones of you that need it are getting some too. They are saying that tomorrow, we'll be back to 95 degrees and no more rain in sight. I hope the are wrong! We can enjoy it for the day. I havne't even made it outside yet and that's a first since May 10th when my daylilies started blooming. I feel plum lazy and I'm enjoying every bit of it.

Blessings to all, Mona

Good for you Mona! It's just now making it this far south, but we've had a couple of good showers, and there's more behind that. Thank God for the much needed moisture for all of us who need it desperately.
I know my dl's are going to perk right up after this. At least for a few days. Hopefully, we will begin to see an end to this awful drought.

    Mona and Jan,
I'm glad to hear you have gotten some much-needed rain. Yesterday we had three showers, with the last a good soaker. And this morning we've had two. I've been dancing around in the rain like a fool. Here's the daylily from yesterday that expresses my sentiments.

    BLESSED ART THOU

Debra, I love that dl and it's name. Here's one that shows how I feel about God's gift of rain today.

Mona, I know you have one to express your sentiments, come on, let's see it....;o)

Debra, want to hear something funny....:) I was out back after the rain this afternoon, checking out my new arrival bed...guess who is there? Yep "Blessed Art Thou"!!! Geez...it's a good thing I have my data sheet when I'm ordering or else I'd have several of the same ones!!!! Before I kept a list of all my dl's, I have been known to buy the same one twice!!!
Who else has done the same thing, I wonder? lol

I couldn't think of a single one. I got about 7/8 " of rain and that truly helped. My ground is sandy so it drains very quickly.
Believe me Mona, I know about dragging hoses around. my problem is that I have to rotate and be very carful not to run my well dry as we need water for the house too!!

We know that God knows what we need and he promises to give to us. We get impatient some times but He does things on His time... Here is my feeble contribution....Ellie

    Mona,
I know just how you feel. By reading other forum's on the GW I'm reading other states are having drought and I thought it was just us lower southern states.
We went for three years without very much rain but this spring and now going into summer our area has had a lot of rain and a lot of damage due to rain.
Sunday night we had 7 inches of rain within 2 hours, it hit about midnight and went till 2 AM. I knew this storm was not just any storm because it was so hard and lot's of lightening and thundering. By 2 AM I was really to get to bed thankfully the storm had lost it's strength. When I woke up in the morning got my coffee and sat down to watch the news, they had covered how bad the storm really was. In our town it wiped out a baseball park, did a lot of damage to the bridge and buckled up the road but this was nothing compared to damage to two other towns one only a few miles from us. There were lives lost and homes lost, cars on top of each other. Then about 25 miles north of us the storm flooded the whole town, they showed people on top of their roof tops because the water came rushing into the homes so fast they didn't have a chance to get to safety, 5 people lost their life's in this town.
My husband wanted to take a drive to see how bad it was in our neighborhood and I seen many of the people along the main road having to pull up their carpet for water getting into their home.
While the rain has been much needed because our lakes too where way below normal.
I've lived here in Texas most my life and don't recall having this wet of a spring. Sure we have springs were we'll have so much rain that might flood once but we've been hit over and over this year.
Wish we could just order up a few inches a week, just a nice slow steady rain for our plants and us.
