Does wood older than last year's ever form figs?

(I'm sure this is as basic as "How many eggs do hens lay per day", but be patient with me.)

Some varieties have fruit on last years wood only. Some have fruit on this years wood only. Some have fruit on last years wood and this years wood. I know of none that fruits on wood older than previous season.

That covers the waterfront and is exactly what I wanted to know. I knew that old wood was capable of producing buds--else we could not cut back so far and still get branches--but I did not know if this old wood ever made figs.

Ox, I plan on pruning my larger tree in half this year. It has grown too big and only the high tips are fruiting.

Be sure to plan for this when you put your trees in the ground or protect it. I think I remember you saying that the tree needed to survive unprotected. Also, be sure to plan for a breba, main crop, or both fruiting when pruning. If the tree is not protected, you may never get figs like the case of the breba only. If it does main crop or both you may be fine.
