I would prune it. If it has a reasonably strong crotch (!!!???) it can probably support itself with less weight at the end. If it has a weak crotch it's probably best removed.

My grandpa was famous for making crutches for his plum trees. In high production years he would prop the heaviest branches from underneath with homemade crutches. ;0)

Agree...perhaps it's the time to take the whole branch off when too close to the ground?

I tied it up with a nylon for now. It just seemed odd that the branch would bow down like that, but i have no experience with fruit trees. I guess i could prune it, though, as it won't get any stronger being tied up.

Thanks for the link, Pudge. I don't think i would go that far with this tree, though. The largest branches now are only about an inch in diameter and i wouldn't want to be putting the screws to them, so to speak!

If the crotch is "u" shaped, I think selective pruning just to lighten the limb would help. If it's "V" shaped it should be removed. If the branch does nothing for the overall look of the tree, I would just take it off.
