Outstanding Martin! Totally outstanding. I have not done an air layering yet. I got one each Atreano, LSU Gold, LSU Purple and one Black Spanish. All are at least 3 years old but they all have figs on them too. I may have to sacrafice one limb for an air layering because I plan on planting these trees in the ground this Fall. I want to air layer them in case I loose them this winter. thanks for the photo, totally awesome. cheers, Dennis

I plan to do air layering also, but I will wrap in foil because the desert is hot, and heat reflects off, and the foil creates a false darkness for the roots. That's all.. Great photos!! Great lessons!

Great work Martin

I use 2 liter bottles and cut the top off and drainage holes in the bottom, and insert a stem through one of the holes. Then I add soil. Foolproof!

No i did not girdle the branch on any of these.
Here is another airlayer started on Ronde De Bordeaux and another just started to show a root in middle of small 10 or 12 ounce water bottle.

I love to look at the progress! I'm so happy with my VDB that I want to air layer it to make more trees, but the thought of giving up any of it's nice branches is painful! Still, I'll do it! The grand kids want a tree, so for sure, I'll do it!
