Road Trip

I have been traveling to Sanford the last two days and will go again tomorrow. After the seminar is over about 3:00pm and, since I will be just 20 minutes away from Seminole Springs Antique Roses and Herbs, I shall drop in.

I am interested in seeing if they have Madame Lombard or any of her Tea sisters.

Oooh, hope you are enjoying your visit, Thono, but the last time I was there, roses were definitely taking a back seat. Tracy has gotten her organic certification and is growing herbs for several commercial outlets. I think they are focusing more on that these days. They still HAD roses, of course, but maybe not quite so many. Especially not of the smaller ones.

    Good luck!

sorry to hear that Seminole is decreasing their heirloom roses, I got Carnation and Belind'as Dream from them. It seems to be happening all over the country as heard over on the Antique Rose forum.

I have no vendor nearby to buy heirloom roses from so mail order is my best friend.

Hope you are successful at Seminole but if not I can recommend Rose Petals Nursery near Gainesville for mail order roses. I recently got a shipment from them and they ship in gallon pots for $9 per rose plus shipping. This is a larger pot size than any others gotten mail order and roses very happy, greener than ones gotten from Louisiana and California but I got mine before the cold weather hit Florida.

And yes they have Madame Lombard.

    Good luck

    Denise

I don't think Seminole Springs is giving up on the roses totally. It's just that they are a small family business and they are really working hard on the herbs. It is more profitable for them right now, and like many small businesses, I suspect they are feeling the pinch.

Thanks for the link to Rose Petals. Sounds interesting, though I only have one or two roses left now. But I might want to add one now and then, once I get the rest of my landscape like I want it. I had Madame Lombard, too, and it is now residing at Felix's house.

I have to agree with Marcia. I know the last time I was there Tracy told me she was discontinuing her quart starts and didn't have the same variety she used to have but she is still a super person, does have many roses that do well here in Florida and deserves our support. Most of the roses I grow now came from her. But with all that said I do have to admit I am taking a trip to Rose Petals next week for my annual "Birthday Rose Buying Bash". I will post a report on what I come home with!

Veronica - Did you get my e mail? Cornelia and the cuttings are on their way to you! Should be there tomorrow or Friday!

Well... sniff... I couldn't find it. Boo hoo. I WAS on Huff road, just could not find the street number. Found lots of 350XX's + and 360XX's. Just could not find a 349XX address. The sign at Hwy 44 looked real bad, barely readable, so maybe she has closed that end of the operation.

    Got your email, Susan. THANKS!!

And thank you, too, Denise. I am off to visit Rose Petals.

I've gotten 3 roses from Seminole Springs and was very happy. I hope they stay in business because it is very difficult to get heirloom roses.
