Daisy type plant

A second question from the Z3 newbie ... I inherited a white with yellow centred daisy type perennial, self seeds & gives off a terrible smell. Hubby says old gym socks, I say dog poop. Can someone tell me what this is?

Sounds like shasta daisies to me. Haha. You either have to dead head them when the flowers are finished or dig out the ones that self-seed. They tried taking over my garden the last couple of years......I shovel prun them a lot.

What size of bloom? Big than Shasta if not then it might be what I've heard called camomille (SP). It has tinier leaves and spreads like crazy and stinks to high heaven. Shasta leaves are broader and longer than the camomille and I've never smelled a bad Shasta - but mine are about to bloom so I will... LOL

Can you take a picture to post than we might have a better idea of what you got?

Or maybe a Matricaria (Feverfew)? I think they stink...

How big are the flowers/plants?

Shasta's it is. How the heck did they get so popular if they stink this badly? Thanks all.

I've never noticed my Shastas to smell at all... will have to go check when I get home.

I just went out to smell my Shasta for the first time ever! LOL. Yeah, when you get your nose right up super close to them they do smell pretty bad! LOL. Other then that I can't say that I ever noticed any smell from them!

Haha.....we can all add a sign to our gardens.

"DON'T SMELL THE SHASTA'S!"

I noticed last year when I was shovel pruning a gazillion of them out of my garden.

Hey wouldn't that be a good sign for Marcia's garden tour.....then she could count the people that just have to smell the shastas. LOL!

BTW Osteos are pretty stinky too......when you dead head them.

My kid's did that for me last year, saved me the agony of smelling them myself! LOL
Actually I never event knew they had a scent of any kind, until the kids smelled them.

I had to go out and smell mine too. This is enabling of a different kind! LOL Cleome can smell pretty bad too - i should have planted some near the daisies!

Sierra - perfect! I should rig up a sign like that!

I smelled mine and only got the faintest whiff of B.O. - enough not to try it again.

I'm reporting back today..shasta daisies don't come close to the skunky smell of the cleomes...savona
