Two hot days and.....

BUGS! Oh my, it seems like over night I have some plants that look like swiss cheese and others that, appear to me, browning from spider mites....then the aphids. They were on my rose last night but appear gone today yet encrusting a couple hosta buds. I feel the others pain.

Now to decide how I am going to attack them all. I think I am going to go down the road to the lilac bushes, they are huge, and see if I can find some lady bugs. I can't imagine how else to get spider mites off little lamium leaves.

Hope your Canada Day is less eventful.

Happy Canada Day all!!!

We can always hope the bugs will melt! Lol! Probably not before I do tho. Warm one here today. Watering is done and time to head down to the dungeon. And my dogs have huge fur coats!

Lance, soapy water sprayed on the leaves works. Safer's or just mild dish soap and water. :)

    Thanks Ginny,

I sort of panicked when it appeared everything had something chewing holes in it. Funny thing was after I went looking for ladybugs for a few hours when I returned I could see "different" bugs which appeared to be eating the mites and aphids. So I just washed the leafs I could and snipped others off that were heavily infested leaving the rest for food. Today has seen a radical change in bad bug numbers.

Love the pic...it was 37C here yesterday and is 38.6 on my deck right now. To warm to go pull out the plants I am not liking anymore ;) lol

Like Ginny, I use Safer's, but only when I think I really really need to, which isn't often.

I've found that because I don't use any pesticides, nature seems to have found itself a nice balance, as I generally have no problems. A few holes chewed here and there, but for the most part all is taken care of. The only thing I do is squish those little worms that can barely be seen on the rose bushes. Oh, and I knock off and step on those horrible tent caterpillars.

I also do the lady bug transfer that you did :) I just tell them where they're going and what they're going to do, and they're happy to oblige :)

    Thanks Nuts,

I know I panicked. I worked so hard to get it to where it is and I can't replace it.

Last night the wife thought I was crazy, again, because I was walking lacewings (I think) to my infested areas after they landed on me. Not sure if she thinks this is worse than me with a little paint brush with round up and weeds. Lol

I hope your gardens are looking better after your loss. Would love to see pics.

I have lots and in a variety of sizes I don't know if they will all have time to flower some are still just babies.

I think you will be surprised at how fast they can grow. Albeit a different and smaller variety a poppy plant on the job site I am on grew 12" and flowered over the long weekend. I am thinning leaving some of every size. I am not broadcast sowing ever again! Lol
