I was about to ask the same thing as northspruce...where did you buy them?

I got them at Gyselniks" (sp?) located on McPhillips at Jefferson for those of you who are Winnipeggers. They have all their plants (perennials, annuals and hanging baskets) on for buy one get one free so couldn't resist. Gill I know you're in the area so you might want to check them out!

Aha! I'm not the only one still shopping! I happened to be in town on the Friday before the long weekend and well, just slipped inocently in to Dunvegan Gardens to look...MIDNIGHT MADNESS!! They don't call it madness for nothin', let me tell ya! Decent sales at 20-40% off perennials and shrubs. The bonus was that I spent over $100 so I got 12 free sixpacs of whatever bedding plants I chose. That was fun!

Picked out pink celiosa, black dragon coleus and silver mound to put together, then some painted tongue and snapdragons for fun.

Thought I'd give Ninebark 'Summerwine' a try, a Black Current, White Peony 'Fiesta Maxima' (I think), Siberian Iris 'Butter and Sugar', unknown pink cranesbill, a white lupin, orange scented thyme, wooly thyme, white flowered thyme, daylilly 'Little Grapette', and two golden sedums. I think that's it.

I got them in the ground and they're looking ok, just had to keep them watered like crazy in the heat we had last week! The ninebark looks a bit stressed. I trimmed the shrubs up a bit...was that the right thing to do?

I'm a wee bit worried that it's a little late to be be planting in my zone (1b). Anyone have any thoughts on that?

Well I hope its not too late Toots because I came home from Brandon with 4 new clematis and I have to find some places for them before work on Tuesday!
I think they should be fine...it will give them enough time to get a bit established before the cold snap hits in 2 months...UGH...that sounds way too soon!

I just came home with 9 pots of different annuals. Now I'm trying to decide whether I can do one large container or a few small ones. Geez, I was totalling finished planting! But they were only $1 each for 4" or larger size pots. I got 2 large geraniums, 2 torenias, a large impatiens, 2 different potato vines, and 2 other annuals I've never heard of. I am insane. I had only popped in there to see if I could find a little succulent for this cute pot I have.

I don't think it's too late to plant. I read that a safe guideline is that potted plants can be planted up to six weeks before winter sets in. Planting it now, however, will obviously give it more time to establish itself before "that hated season" arrives. Even after frost the plants apparently keep growing their root systems.

I too bought a ninebark, the 'diablo' one. I want to replace my purple leaf sandcherry but may wait until spring to do that. (The bed's too full of other stuff right now). I may just sink the ninebark's pot into the ground for winter. I love the sandcherry, but for four years it's suffered iron chlorosis. I love the shape of the ninebark's leaves and the peeling bark.

I also bought a henryi clematis and ostrich fern on clearance. Yup, go to the garden centre for one item, come home with three.
