I have had my panache in ground for 3 years now. Most summers we Orange Counteans mostly have highs in the 70s and the 80s due to the cool ocean influence, but last year it was unusually hot, more in the 80s and 90s range. It also happened to be a drought year. I don't irrigate my figs after they're well established. This negatively affected my other fig trees, but the panache tiger figs were exceptional last year: like sweet raspberry jam. They also ripened a few weeks earlier.

Now it looks like a "normal" summer again, so I expect my panache tigers to ripen at the end of August and through September. In a "normal" summer, they are only half as sweet as they were last summer. Oh well, at least my other figs (black jack, Peter's honey, Latarulla) are doing great!

The texture is jammy like VdB, with plenty of sweetness and crunch (from the seeds).

you know weirdly enough, a few of my Panache started ripening already, even to the point of developing that extra sweet/jammy flavor. This is unusual given the weather pattern here -- I expected an early Sept. harvest. But they are so good! Will post pics when I can.

Is your panachee tree productive?

My tree is too young for me to have much of a take on production just yet. I can only speak to its high eating quality, closed eye and ability to avoid being eaten by critters (its green skin makes it somewhat camouflaged).
