Oh dear....my DH made me some chicken wire tents to put over my strawberries. They work great. Even the dogs can't get em!!:)

What did you use for the frame? PVC? Metal piping?

Can YOU get at them? LOL ! How did your DH solve that? Can you describe more what they look like?

I was thinking of maybe using flexible pipe attached to the 4x4 frame, putting some type of netting tied on fairly loosely with tie wraps, and then it could be pulled along the pipe accordian style so that I could get at the plants. Hmmmm. I'll have to ask DH.

Do you think that would work, or can you see problems with it?

The frame is 2x4 and 2x2 with chicken wire. The slats covering the wire are free at the lumber yard. They hold lumber bundles together.

My DH just used 2 x 2's in a simple A frame and I just prop them up on one end to get at the strawberries. I'll see if I can find a picture or find them to get a picture. I haven't used them for strawberries for a few years but I have used them for cucumbers to climb up the outside too. I think they are 3 feet long and about 18" high. Maybe not the most efficient use of space but they worked.

I have a very irregularly-shaped strawberry patch, so had to be imaginative. I bought the netting below, cut it in sections to correspond to the berry bed sections (but larger than the section, so say if a section was 12 x 3, I cut 14 x 5 so that there was allowance for height of plants). Then I bought enough 1x2 to edge the sections of netting and stapled the netting on it (have to roll the netting around the frame to make it sturdy enough to not rip). The pieces are lightweight enough that I can lift one side out of the way with one hand. At the end of the season, I just roll-up the sections. I would take pictures, but I just placed it on the bed last night and don't have time to take it off right now.
