Bare Root Figs

I've got a question about bare root figs.

I'm way out of any sort of fig growing area, so no hope of picking up a potted tree at a nursery. Burnt Ridge in WA offers a Violette Du Bordeaux that gets shipped bare root, and I'd like to order one.

I've seen where a couple of people have said they don't like to receive bare root figs and at least one reputable nursery has it on their site that they won't guarantee fig trees.

So the question is: how hard is it on the fig trees to be sent bare root?

I don't particularly like mail order plants. I like to pick out the plant myself. But I've had good luck with Burnt Ridge in the past and that Violette sure sounds like it would work for me as a container fig in a cold climate.

Burnt Ridge is close enough to me that shipping time is quick, which makes a difference in the condition of the plants when they arrive.
