I emailed the seller. I'll let you know if i get any more info.

Texas BA-1 has been around for awhile. It was supposedly found on the abandoned plot of a graduate student at Texas A&M during the Alma breeding program.

Called EL today and the man said just what mountainman0826 said and added its probably a green ischia or something like that.
Anyways thats just what he said , i also inquired about if he might have a black madeira as i would like a challenge but he did not. Oh well thought i might add the above.

Has anyone grown this fig? any experience with flavor and productivity?
It's described as very sweet.

I have one in ground Texas BA-1 (AKA Red Gold). It was damaged last year by the hurricanes. It has not yet fruited for me; however, it's making a good come back and may fruit this year.

Is it suppose to be a dark fig?

Bass,

It was described to me as a medium sized yellow fig with brown stripes and has pink pulp. It produces honeydew which seals the small eye. It supposedly does well on the Gulf Coast. If I get fruit this year I will post pictures.

Dan

I have two young trees, and each has a few figs. Hopefully they will ripen. If so, I will post pictures. Last year I had only 2 or 3 figs. The birds got two, and rain got the other. However, it is definitely NOT Green Ischia. It isn't anything like GI. It's size and shape (from what I could tell last year) was similar to Smith. The leaves are similar to Smith leaves too. I'm not saying I think TX BA-1 might be Smith. It is definitely not, but the leaves have definite similarities.

Here's what ray description of the fig.
I'm sure it's the same as TXBA-1
B.A. 1ÂA variety said to have been found on an unknown Texas A&M graduate student's abandoned test plot during the trials of Alma. Large and of good quality in the Gulf Coast states. May be less hardy than other varieties.
