generally there will be two crops, the first called Breba are from last years growth and the second crop will be smaller and form from new growth.

since you're in zone 9 the summer will be long enough for the regular crop to mature.

would pruning now make any difference or help with the second crop?

Try fertilizing w high phos like superphosphate, bonemeal, or regular phos.

I've had a second main crop in my greenhouse. So that's with a 300 day growing season. The key is you need a second spurt of growth. Pruning might do that in fact it has for me at times. But fertilizer and water can cause another growth spurt as well.

This will be my first crop off a young fig tree. Will cutting off the second crop nodules help the first crop grow bigger or mature earlier?

If the second crop is larger now then bing charry then cut the branch above the 3 main crop figs something like that on the image below, can you make a picture and post it ?

Don't know the variety. Second crop a bit bigger than peas, but I heard from other people with some experience with figs in this area that the weather cools and dulls before their second crop can ripen. First crop is close to full size right now. Will take pic tomorrow.

Is it's now a pea size they will not ripen for you on Vancouver Island.

Remove the main crop figs, but Iw ould definitely just out of curiosity leave two main crop figs on each branch just to see if they come close enough to ripening, and identifying as close as we can.

There is a web side BC Fig Growers, there are quite a few guys from Vancouver Island, Iw ould recommend you to join it.

I live in Penticton BC my climate is very different from your.
