Yes, they would be 'freezerburned'.

If you want bulbs in your windowboxes why not measure your windowboxes and find pots that fit into the windowboxes that are deep enough for spring bulbs, then plant your bulbs in these pots, sink them in the ground for winter, then in spring, dig them out and put them into your window boxes. After they finish blooming remove the pots, sink in the garden again to die back there and then leave them until the following spring. Plant your windowboxes with annuals for the summer.
