I'm posting these pictures for my sister. She's hoping someone can identify this plant for her. She is in New Brunswick. If there is a more suitable forum to post this to, please let me know, but I told her there were very knowledgeable people here who might be able to help her.

How tall is it? It looks to me like Astilbe chinensis var. pumila if its short growing.

Wow Sharon, You're good!
I looked up Astilbe chinensis var. pumila on the web and I think you're probably right. Once it blooms I guess it will be obvious.

I phoned my sister and she said it's about 8" tall. The reason why she's confused is that she has no memory of purchasing the plant. But they recently moved and she brought along plants that had been in a gift container and that was probably one of them. She sends her thanks for your help.
