Yes....this is normal. How did the figs taste. Full of flavor and sweetness, or, washed out, and insipid?

PS....John....I hope your using protection...for the figs, that is. Put a 1/4" slit into a small plastic Won-Ton soup container (from Chinese takeout). The slit should stop halfway down only one side of the container. Slip the fig, using the slit, into the container and snap on the lid. Perforate the protective "box" by drilling ventilation holes into it. The holes allow air to get to the fig, and allows rain to drain away. Now, the birds cant peck your figs, and John is happy.

I don't think this is a brown turkey at all. Either that or mine are not brown turkey and I have something else. Mine which were labeled brown turkey are far smaller than yours but mine are very sweet. Another thing how many figs you have on one tree I have a lot may be that why mine do not grow large. I don't know. I am just happy my figs wrippen and is sweet.

John has San Piero, or California Brown Turkey. Foolishpleasure probably has Eastern Brown Turkey a smaller fig.

The figs are quite good in my opinion, but have to be completely ripe (almost to the point of spoiling) otherwise they are bland and dry. Maybe not the best figgy flavor--I have another fig, unknown but lighter in color and smaller (and definitely not Celeste), which has excellent and very "figgy" figs--but they are very soft, very juicy, and very sweet. Although large they are usually hollow and have an open eye, so bugs are sometimes a problem. They ripen dramatically, swelling and changing color rapidly over just a few days. Very hardy and I get 2 good crops, although the birds & squirrels usually get the brebas before I do--not as much of a problem with the second crop.
