Andres, there's many PJM's planted at the DBG within their Japanese Gardens, or at least there was a few years back. These were growing with mixed results, some healthy, while others suffering varying degrees of dieback. The DBG is located in a lower lying region, so I think these plants could be rather successful in a protected yard in Edmonton, I'm gonna give a few a try along my north facing deck where they'll be out of the winter sun and avoid desiccation problems
