It has been growing there every since without winter protection. But, it is in a protected spot. Which protects it against winter winds. Although it's a great tasting fig, It's not as cold hardy as other cold hardy figs, that we have tested. Such as Marseilles Black VS. Which is the fig I recommend to people who are just starting out growing figs.

Thanks for the suggestion , where is a good source for Marseilles Black VS. I would like to add this one to my collection . Is it an early ripening fig ?

We sell it, along with other cold hardy figs. For zone 6 locations where people want to grow figs out side in the ground with out winter protection, try the following: LaRadek's English Brown Turkey, Hanc's English Brown Turkey, and Marseilles Black VS. All three have taken minus 18 degrees Farenheit.These three will take a lot of cold, once they have become mature 5 to seven years of protection first.

With fall approaching you should be able to locate a lot of cuttings for Marseilles Black VS. If you go to Figs 4 Fun and post a want to buy post. You should be able to get either cuttings or plants this fall
