Hi Montana rose ... yes, this plant is from my small scale breeding program. I'm working on developing hardy roses in a wider range of colors and forms capable of handling my brutal zone 3 winters. I have not yet given the rose a name, sometimes a most fitting one just flies off the tip of my tongue, especially when a rose exhibits particular traits, though IÂm often left scratching my head for a name I'm keen upon.

Next year, IÂm hoping to have some very good quality rich red Hybrid Tea types come forth from the crosses I had done this summer (what summer?), IÂm a bit anxious to see the outcome ... though, thereÂs always unpredictable results and few plants are worth keeping.

I remember, Terry, that you said you would like to have "Alberta" in the names. Looks like an "Alberta Sunglow" to me! :)

Beautiful! When you say hardy does that mean no die back or is it like the Morden roses that die back completely but do recover enough to bloom again. Are you planing on trying to market any of your roses or only doing it as a hobby. I still remember the yellow rose you you showed us several years ago. How is it still doing is it available anywhere yet?

Hi Leo, the plant has retained about 1 ft of live wood over winter, it performs like a hardy floribunda. Yes, I do the rose breeding work as a hobby, I love the tender hybrid teas and floribundas, though dislike having to protect them and the uncertainty of winter survival. So, my goal is to develop no fuss hardy types having comparable beauty. I'll likely soon be releasing this rose for further testing. My yellow rose has been doing well and I've had requests to have it propagated, though it is not available commercially, and I'm unsure if I'll be heading in that direction with it ... though, that could happen.

You're much too experienced and could probably keep a dead stick alive..........I think it would be a much better test if a rose newbie like me had the yellow and this new salmon colored one. It would be a true test, LOL! =:)

Oh wow Terry, I'm late checking in here, but very glad I did. Now that's exactly the type of rose I want for my garden. My very favorite rose color range. It's beautiful...and hardy and repeat flowering.. what more could you ask for. You'd better add me to the list when available. Great work. Congratulations.

Do you still have the rooted cutting I brought you? Did it survive winter for you? I left a couple of rose hips on a couple roses after the first flush. Am hoping to get a few germinations this winter. Have you harvested your rose hips yet?

I was fortunate to have so many good traits come together within this rose ... though, further testing is required and that takes plenty of time.

Joan, yes, the color is very easy on the eyes and I'm impressed with the quality and quantity of blooms. The rose you had given me had come through winter (with protection) with plenty of live wood ... though, this later died back and it really struggled to produce new growth until it hit its stride in late summer.

I still have hips maturing on potted plants, all those on in ground plants had needed to be collected prior to our severe frost of a few weeks ago. Most of these had been far from being mature and so were taken with a length of stem and struck as if a cutting, thus the ripen process has continued. If all goes well, I should have some very nice seedlings to show for next year ... hereâÂÂs to hoping!

How old is this rose Terry? Since you mention that it is hardy to zone 3, am I correct in assuming that you have it planted in the ground? Looks very promising. Good luck with your testing, and hope I'm not too old to garden before you get it to market. LOL

Joan, the rose is four years old. In its second year it had stood out from the others within the rows of outdoor seedlings and was selected for further evaluation. It has now been replanted and has thrived on the bit of additional attention given. I also hope IâÂÂm not too old before this rose makes its way around to others :)
