You are so lucky. I love "The Prairie Garden" annual publications and find them very interesting.

A few years ago I picked up a few back issues at T&T Seeds old store in St. Boniface. I only have about 5 issues, however, but I know you can order back issues on line (though obviously not at the great price you paid).

As for what's good, well it really depends on what you are interested in. For me, for example, I am a bit into zone pushing so found the 2003 issue "themes and extremes" to be interesting, as well as the 1998 "trees of the prairies", more for general interest sake. In fact reading an article about catalpa speciosa trees growing at the MB Legislature made me decide to try to grow one myself.

You will find that even though each issue has a certain theme, there are also other articles of interest. So if you aren't that big on the issue that features trees, for example, there are other articles in there. As for the older issues, I still find useful information in them though it's interesting to read about what plants were new introductions in 1986 for example.

I find 'Gardener for the Prairies' the most useful and well done gardening magazine in Canada. It has lots of practical info that is written in a professional way but still quite understandable by the average gardener.

I also like the above mentiond 'the Prairie Gardener'.

I don't think I've seen these books either. Good thing winter's coming.......you've got lots of reading material there!

The Prairie Garden is a small book (about 5" x 9") with about 150 pages, lots of color pictures, short one page articles and a soft cover. It is published annually in Winnipeg, MB. Each individual garden club in Manitoba has the opportunity to sell these books to their members and friends at a reduced rate. The regular suggested price is about $8. We bring some each year to Lindenberg's and the local nurseries to have at their front counters to sell to people who come into the store. Each year there is a guest editor. For example, the year 2000 book...the guest editor was David Hanson, owner of Sage Garden Herbs, a herb nursery in Winnipeg and the whole issue was on herbs. Next year the editor will be someone else.

Laurie, you live close to Brandon, so next spring when you are in Lindenberg's or Greenspot just take a look on the counter or ask them and take a look at one. Next year's issue is about myths and beliefs about different plants. Not an issue that I would be particularly keen on getting. Oh, well.

Oh, interesting. I'll have to keep my eye out for it.

Wow, you sure got a good deal there V-girl!

I was fortunate last year to receive 9 The Prairie Garden annual editions from a friend whose MIL passed away; no one had any interest in them at the garage sale so she gave them to me. I was so please and so honored that she gave them to me; her MIL was an avid gardener who was a well-respected nursery owner here in Wainwright.
1962, 63, 64, 65, 69, 72, 74, 79, 80. I also have 2000 and 2005.

All the articles in every issue are great reading material! IÂm still reading them to this day ;)
