I have Rugelda. It's vigorous (tall) and healthy. I don't remember if it has a scent or not but the foliage and the colour of the flowers are really nice. I've had it for 2 years - the first year it was cane hardy but this past winter was very cold and it died back nearly to the ground. It grew back to my shoulder height by July, so no worries.

Thank you northspruce, i am glad to hear of it's vigor, and anticipated height. This helps me think of the perfect spot for it. I really like the shiny foilage so far, although it is delicate from being in the nursery:

Here is Prairie Princess (from Pan Am. roses), I suspect she will be a climber.

This is from Quadra - does anyone happen to know if this is this a bud union or grafted, or do own-root roses look this way as well?:

All I can advise is that if your Quadra is own root, it's several years old. In my experience, all own-root roses are quite dainty at purchase and for the first couple of years. They don't put out any thick canes right away.

My Rugelda is grafted and I'm sure that has something to do with the extreme vigour in the first two years. Honestly I'm not opposed to grafting on a climate-appropriate rootstock at all. I've had good results both ways.

Thank you northspruce, it is good to know that grafted roses can do well in zone 3. I've read some old posts from warmer climates about Rugelda dying off after a few years. Perhaps it will do better up here. Then I came across some old photos Rugelda at the nursery, the flowers were huge! It's definitely worth a try.
