Oh Danny Boy...the figs, the figs are calling ye...

Oh, that's right...a mix question. I grow in very large 18-25 gallon containers filled with:

1-part Turface-MVP
1-part crushed grit (like aquarium gravel)
1-part Pine Bark fines...very small chunks of pine bark. I use "Zoo-Med Repti-Bark-Premium" this is sold in large pet supply chin stores, and is used as an absorbent bedding for reptiles, etc. Very expensive

In addition add a good handful of granular limestone. Figs hate acidic soils, and mixes. The above mix is the classic "Gritty, Quick-Draining Mix". A search on this forum wil yield pages and pages of information about this and other growing mediums used in containers.

I feed my trees with almost every watering, with very diluted fertilizers. Every so often I use plain water to flush out the mix of any accumulated fertilizer salts. Since the above mix has very little nutrients, all essential elements needed for good, healthy plant growth must come from supplements. Hydroponic supply stores have some very good products. Information on fertilizers has also been posted, and there are many choices.

I use cow manure soil, per-lite and sphagnum moss. My fig trees are so green and healthy. They are growing wild I told them today please stop growing the winter is coming.
