Hee hee...I read your post because I have always wondered about what grows on greenland/iceland...they were colonized by the Dutch, who are great gardeners.

No, but I grow Iceland Poppies and my DH is Icelandic ;)

We visited there this summer in late June. They had acres upon acres of lupines and lady's mantle that grew wild. Also saw golden chain tree in bloom, roses just starting to come into bloom, McFarland lilacs (pretty straggly looking in Reykjavik), and a limited number of wildflowers that I didn't recognize growing close to the hot springs at Geysir. There were very very few trees, and the ones we saw were mostly deciduous. There really was quite limited vegetation. Some areas that were pastureland had turf, but we went over many areas that had more moss & lichens and sub-arctic scrub rather than anything else. It's possible that we were there too early in the summer and that it would be more colorful in late July or early August.

I live in Iceland. We grow all sorts of things here. Most of the seeds in the shops come from British seed companies (all the way from carrots and tomatoes to sweetpeas and marigolds etc) What we lack by having long winters, we make up for my having total sunlight in the summer.

By the way, Iceland was never colonised by the Dutch, rather by the Danish. Denmark is not so famous for its gardening as Holland is...
