Cold Last Night

Well let out the dogd this morning about 06:40am

and in my shorts and tee shirt i could see my breath, the sun was just coming over the house across the street, and then it happened.

I started to get a chill in me and said "Romeo, Luigi, Butch c'mon in as i realized it was cold brrr cold. I gave a quick look at the few remaianing figs as it had rained last night and they looked ok except for a few slas that had split at the eye ,only a few left on my tree's except for my unknown which is loaded still with a just a few that are ripe for picking probably later today.I went in the house and on computer and saw the temp 45 today's high will be 70. The weekly forcast will be daily highs in the 70s with lows in the 50s so this morning it was just plain cold and a taste of things yet to come. So its getting to be that time of year that i don't like to see coming, Where did summer go ? Did my daughter and i eat that many figs already? Yes we did we had a lot and they were good, so now i have to make room in garage as i purchased a few more trees and think about how next year will be as this season of figs is starting to come to an end only a few more weeks left perhaps for me.We had a late cold spring and looks like a early cold fall, time will tell. Darn then winter, so Brrrr

Ciao Martin, It isn't too cold here, but wow, we woke up jumping to the sound of thunder and the lightning here in Central Pennsylvania, it was a mess. The rain came down so hard!!! the wind was bad also. Some Tornado warnings for our area this morning. We will be cold tonight about 46 degrees, then warming back up tomorrow. Everything hit at about 3:00 this morning. We have 3 jack russell terriers and they barked and bolted out of bed when the thunder clapped since the wee early hours of the morning. They couldn't get back to bed. I'm going out to gather up my ripe figs now so that I can eat some breakfast. Ciao, Maggie

    Maggie,
we also nhave 3 dogs from a 7 pound yorkie to a 85 pound mutt.Yes the noise outside makes them angry especially the fourth of july holiday. It was 46 again for the low and i had brought my newly purchased figs in the shed for the night and bringing back outside today will be 75. My older tree's are just fine for now it is supposed to be the same for next week with the coldest being around 50 or so at night. Most of my figs are eaten now except for the 1 unknown i have which still has a lot of figs i have eaten a few but this tree does this every year a very late fig, but thats ok i really enjoy the size and taste of the ones i do get we do get to eat.
Maggie and ottawan i was wondering are most of your figs tree's geting bare of the figs yet.

Ciao Martin, Not really, my figs are not bare yet. Everyday about 3 or 4 ripen, I usually go out in the early morning and pick those and eat them right away. There are new figs popping out of the branches. I don't know how these will fare or if they will ripen, but I have about 2 dozen yet that will probably ripe before the end of the year. Last night we went to 46 degrees, I had to bring my Bougainvillea in and set them in their winter positions upstairs in a warm bright unused bedroom. Fall is coming quickly, I heard of a frost warning last night in Upstate New York. Yuck!!! don't like this. Also brought in my Carob tree and my Caper bushes. What alot of work. Oleander and It Jasmine will come in next. My Geraniums can stay out a couple more weeks, but then they'll have to come in soon too. Ciao Maggie
