All three of my inground trees died to the base from last years harsh winter. I never bothered to protect the trees last winter. All I did was pile some leaves around the base. They were all planted three years ago. However, they came alive in late May and have put on strong growth. I started pinching the tips in early July otherwise these trees will grow 10' easy in one year.

Due to the late start and fall kicking in, most of the fruit will not ripen this year. I really need another few weeks of summer. Looking forward to a better season next year.

a few questions.

to get my fruit to ripen earlier, I think I need to pinch the tree earlier? The HC is loaded with a fig at every node and the VDB has sporadic figs.

My plan is to cut the figs back to 2' or so in the fall after all the leaves drop. Is this a good idea? Or, should I leave the trees alone and prune in the spring? I usually have a few feet of tip die-off every year anyway.
