Louisiana Iris, Ruellia brittoniana, Red Firespike, Breynia, Duranta, Galphmia, Hedychium and some Costus. If you like palms there are a few, such as Paurotis and Archontophoenix cunninghamina. However you don't say what zone you are in?

Sorry I am in Land O Lakes,central Pasco County, I believe that places me in 9a.

I lost 3 Plumeria in the wet soil and frosts this winter :(

I am in zone 10a and have the plants that I mentioned growing in those seasonally wet areas - probably most will grow in 9a as well but you should check on that. Plumeria is definitely not a candidate for a wet area - it likes to dry out between waterings, and I have found the same with clerodendron.

I would think that canna would do great in that situation. I have seen it growing on the banks of ponds here, right in the mud.

I would just try lots of things that like your zone and wet feet and see what the deer leave alone. Then replace the deer eaten plants with more of the ones the deer ignored.

I live in zone 9a as well. Canna will do great in a the area, as will Louisiana iris, blue flag iris (native), and there are quite a few native grasses that would do good. There's a beautiful yellow canna that's native to florida and prefers wet areas. Also bannana trees, royal ferns (native), lizards tails (native), umbrella sedge, swamp sunflowers (native), and native crinums. The list keeps going. I have the same problem, but the cannas I've grown tend to rot. What works for me are alocasias, gingers, lemongrass, philodendron selloum, everglades palm, cataractum palm, pygmy date palm, scarlet butterfly weed, african iris, white bird of paradise, passionflower, pineapple lily, crinums, dahoon holly and wax myrtle. What I know works well but i can't find are leather fern, string lily, and swamp fern.
