I just discovered that Patrick Studio has their site ready for the new season.

I'll be checking it out NOW! My spring order had arrived in fine form and indeed they have an interesting assortment of plants! The gal there was also very pleasant to deal with! I'll definitely be ordering again!

"Beginning this season, we have discontinued offering plants via mail order or delivery service."

DARN EH! ... yet ANOTHER place ceases mail ordering due to the HIGH cost of shipping! Unless we want to be paying $40.00 postage, soon all such mail order in Canada will be FORCED to end! My favorite place had been The Perennial Gardens, sadly it's mail order has shut down ... who NEXT?

The order I put in this morning.

    316 Belamcanda chinensis
    646 Primula veris Sunset Shades
    S74 Mimosa pudica
    S249 Gaultheria procumbens 'Very Berry'
    514 Heuchera sanguinea Ruby Bells
    S173 Papaver alpinum
    S227 Primula 'Romio Series' mix

It appears that the Belamcanda chinensis is no longer offered.
If you just have to have something from their clearance list you may have to move quickly.

Thanks for that, Ian. I've been perusing, but i may have to get out the VISA! Eek! (that was the card screaming, not me! LOL). Save some of that primula for me, okay? :)

    Hello Marcia,
To date I havenÂt had much success growing primula from seed. Patrick Studio sent an email saying that the seed will be shipped tomorrow. I will have to check the distructions when they get here.
I have in mind to try both the wintersowing method and some indoors. If I end up with too much the local museum society is always happy to take the extras for their perennial plant fundraiser.

While I was in Ottawa I dropped into the Lee Valley store there; my sister lives across the highway from it. There I took a look at some self-watering propagators. Nice but not cheep! I havenÂt yet made the decision on whether to go for it yet. I do have a couple of the self-watering propagators from VeseyÂs. Those are Styrofoam and a bit flimsy.

Here I am enabling our Habit when your Visa card is crying!
Triple b in the CG forum Botanus thread says that even freezing her card in a block of ice doesnÂt work, when VeseyÂs and Botanus send out fall bulb sale notices. At least those offers donÂt tempt me, when I know that by the time Canada Post gets the stuff to me, it will be too late to plug in the bulbs.
My mind is still a bit in holiday mode and I have been tempted to run up the card and deal with the consequences later. After two weeks holiday, retirement is sure tempting; but I sure donÂt want to live on the sort of budget that would be necessary.

Do you check your email regularly? When doing trades I got a bit annoyed at some people who requested seed and then never responded with their addresses when I replied. I will see how much seed I receive. I know that with GN the seed I receive is sometimes a good deal more than posted.
I work in a camp situation and am away four days out of every eight.

BTW yesterday my confuser wouldnÂt let me get online.

Hey, did you all hear that VISA card squealing the other night? I'm blaming Ian for enabling! LOL Freezing it in a block of ice wouldn't work - i have the number memorized!!!

I ordered the same primula seeds, but i really wanted the Lutea and they must be out of stock. I've never tried them from seed, so it's lucky they were cheap!

K - here's my list, because i know Sharon will ask:
    Achillea filipendula Parker's Variety
    Calceolaria x hybrida Sunset Red
    Dianthus arenarius
    Gaillardia Sundance Bicolor
    Ipomoea purpurea Split Personality
    Lathyrus latifolius albus
    Lobelia speciosa Fan Scarlet
    Primula veris Sunset Shades
    Sedum spurium Voodoo

I really AM going to cut down this year! Uh huh. Do i need another achillea? Of course not, but that yellow one will look fabulous next to Angelique which is dark red, and it will fit right into that part of one bed that is all reds and yellows. I HAD to have it!! :)

Ian, i've looked at those trays in Lee Valley too and considered them. They have a lot of neat stuff, and i'd love to visit their store. There's one in Winnipeg, but we seldom go.

Sometimes it does take people a long time to answer their trading emails. I usually answer, but then procrastinate a lot on getting around to send the seeds. (Sorry, Sharon, Shauna and Ang! LOL)

So anyway, that was the first order... :>

K - here's my list, because i know Sharon will ask:

LOL, you know I was good this time around, haven't fallen into tempetation YET ;)

Waiting for Ralph Klein to send my Alberta 2005 Resource Rebate cheque, then I'll go hogwild ;)

Talked to a nice lady from Patrick Studios today. (I was following up on my order via email and she called me with it's status). Apparently they are SWAMPED with orders, esp. from the U.S. (hmmmm) They are totally surprised at why someone would be ordering 300 packs of the same seed. I suggested someone could be re-selling those dollar pkgs on Ebay or the like. Apparently tomorrow is the last day the specials will be posted..they've pretty well run out, and may be restricting quantities that can be purchased in the future, so that home gardeners can have a chance.

I placed an order with Patrick studios also. Waiting for it to arrive. I also came across this site in the Winter Sowing area http://www.valueseeds.com/ . Unfortunately they only ship to the US at this point. I wrote to ask them why. They said they are not set up to put in Canadian adresses. AAARRRGHGHH! But if you know someone who lives in the states you could use that address, the have them ship them back to you. GREAT DEALS! Hate missing them.

My order came yesterday....I know I ordered a lot of seeds ( they came in a small box, not an envelope!) but 300 packets of the same seed....thats a bit too much even for me!

They are even sold out of some of the regular priced seeds. I thought I'd have time to research and browse the list, but while making my selections I discovered things were sold out, so I panicked and ordered right away. Stupid of me, I know, but it was late at night.
    I ended up ordering:

    Achillea filipendula Parker's Variety
    Clematis recta purpurea
    Dianthus arenarius
    Pulsatilla vulgaris 'Heiler Hybrids'
    Solidago sphacelata 'Golden Baby'
    Trollius x cultorum 'Orange Globe'
    Helenium autumnale Helena Gold
    and for annuals:
Nicotiana F1 Hybrid 'Perfume Series Deep Purple'
    Solenostemon 'Sunset'(Coleus)
    Zinnia elegans "Envy'
    Pelargonium BullsEye Salmon

I prefer the way Gardens North's site works. You can add to your basket, shut off your computer, then continue adding to it on your next visit. Marie
