Painted Daisy is more serrated, looks more like a Shasta Daisy.

Not painted daisy... I think it looks more like a campanula, maybe canterbury bells (C. medium).

Wow that was quick, thanks! I hope it's not a campanula, I'm not a big fan. Some are nicer than others. Shasta daisy it could be, the leaves are hard and leathery and have kinda sharp edges. Anyway we will have fun finding out in the spring won't we.

The other things I got are

Coral bells, pink
Obedient plant, rose pink
2 mixed semps (except they all look the same)
Gaillardia grandiflora, burgundy
Sea thrift, red
Pasque flower

And a little group of living stones for inside. Love those little things. Sooo cute!

I stopped my mom from paying $8 for a bee balm. Geez mom, what are you doing?! Take some of mine! LOL

(Yes, I have relented and planted shasta daisy, to my surprise and amazement...lovely flowers, always, but I'm hoping with these new cultivars that their quest for world domination has been tempered, so that I won't be yanking them out again in a couple of years!)

I'm still leaning toward a campanula, but, as you say, all will be revealed in spring.

Thanks for the pics - I don't think either is quite it. It's not as spoon shaped as the campanula, and seems to have a large fleshy midrib that the daisy doesn't have.

What the leaves reminded me immediately of was either some kind of daisy, or possibly a relative of Scabiosa. The leaves are hard and smooth, except the margins which are rough and spiny. They seem a little bit, what's the word, wavy?

This was supermacro with no flash so a bit blurry, but a different look...

And this is the scabiosa I planted this spring for comparison - the leaf shape is not the same, but it is similar in many ways. (BTW the scabiosa hasn't done too much but hopefully will next year)

It might be Limonium latifolium

Hmmm that's not out of the question Pudge. I think the plant is too immature to tell if it will stay a flat rosette. Does L. latifolium have shiny leaves with sharp serrated edges?

Ah well I guess I can hold my breath until next spring... sigh
