Hi All,

For those of you who came to the BBQ and saw the fingerling potatoes growing in the buckets. Here is a picture of some of the harvest.

Purple Peruvian, French Fingerling, and Austrian Crescent.

Awesome potatoes Willy! I didn't get to see them in the buckets though Im hoping to grow some of my own in buckets. Those fingerlings are my absolute favorite!

Very nice Sylvia. What do the dark ones taste like?

We had the potatoes yesterday, we couldn't decided which ones we like better.
The dark ones are the Peruvian, the red are the French and the yellow are the Austrian crescents.
They were so tender that they were cooked in 5 minutes and I serve them with beets and carrots from the garden with a simple shallot vinaigrette. They were delicious!

Christine, when I make my order for the next time, I can order some blue for you. You must try them!

Ok. I will grow those blue potatoes! I am in need of some good vinaigrete recipes. I keep making your cranberry salad dressing recipe, only I substitute calamondin juice for the orange juice. Feel free to post or email me your favorites too. The one for the potatoes sounds good.

Some of them look remarkably like carrots!

Really nice-looking tubers. When did you plant?

hey, swilly, i poked around johnnys--great potatoes, tho the shipping's pretty steep. if you remember next year, if you're willing & we all remember, let's go in on a larger order and then divvy them up.

tell us all, again, how you did the potatoes--7 gallon nursery pots, 'shroompost, and lots of straw, right? when'd you start them?

    Hi Michael
I ordered from Ronnigers and they have very good customer service. Especially for us that we want potatoes at a certain time.
It is a good idea about ordering together. I will include your Russian fingerlings too. They are all good.
I don't remember if you saw the light half whisky barrel buckets that they were in. I also had some in 7 gallon pots.

I had Bill lifting them, so he would know how light they were. This was important for me that I had to move them when the freeze came, to the porch. Only 2 nights I moved them and I covered them with a blanket a couple of times during the season.

They were planted November 12, next season we can do earlier. I put about 6 inches of Miracle grow mixed with pine bark fines. And as they were growing i added straw. Once a week they had water from the sprinkles. That was all.

Michael(the ultimate gourmet), we must grow them again!!!

it's a plan, swilly... we'll order a bunch of seed potatoes in october next. i'll try them in the ground (as i did this year) and in some big pots, as you did. after several years of unsuccessful attempts at potatoes, i'm excited to try some proven methods.

I also think Ronniger's is an excellent potato vendor. I have been experimenting with growing them in large cardboard boxes. They fall apart by the time the potato vines die back. Each box is reinforced on the base with some of last seasons cardboard box walls. I had a hard time getting my Purple Peruvians to break dormancy, in fact I just planted them 2 weeks ago- I had to put them in the refrigerator for a week before their eyes sprouted, and I've had them since October. How did you get yours to react to sunllight? Mine had been in sunlight several days a week since late December.

As soon as I got the potatoes, I cut them up and planted them.
I didn't do any of the sprouting like you did.
When I saw leaves, I added hay. It worked! We are still eating potatoes. Purple Peruvian, a must try.
