Anyone else in this sudden (and quite unexpected for me) deep freeze?

Last night broke records, somewhere around -25C. It warmed up to a balmy -19 today and quickly dropped back to -22. (Um, that's really cold in Farenheit, too - between 0F and -13F).

I'm not sure where it came from so quickly. I'm glad we got some snow to provide a bit of cover.

I see by the weather map that Calgary & area is receiving it's normal summery winter temps, LOL.

Yup, last night was -20. Tonight will be our record breaker if it does get to the predicted -26. I was out there today shovelling big piles of snow over top of my roses. But the good news is that for the weekend they're saying it's going up to +4. I wish mother nature would just make up her mind already.

It's only supposed to go down to -20° here too, but it's -18° already. Yes, thank goodness for the snow. I didn't get Miss Sunrise's box of leaves over her, but she's covered almost to the top of her canes with a snowdrift now, so i guess that will have to do!

It ONLY got down to -21.1 here, so I don't think any records were broken, but sheesh.....having to plug the car in, in November??!! What else can we expect for this winter? I thought they were forcasting a mild one?

Tues night the temp was -24º and last night -23º here at our place...yes this is crazy....already have more snow than we had last Xmas. I'm already tired of shovelling snow off the deck...LOL. Last week, we had to shovel the driveway as the snow was too heavy and wet for the blower. These up and down temps are pretty nuts....never know what the next day is going to bring. No wonder we are so tough!!

Stokes must feel sorry for us, because I got their 2006 Catalogue in the mail yesterday...LOL

I feel sorry for you guys... I'm just glad its not us, but our turn will come.. We're chinooking out here & the little bit of snow we had on the ground went yesterday.. They're calling for a high of 16 C for Sat & Sun..

Thank goodness, it warmed back up to -3C. Bad news is, freezing rain apparently on it's way. Sheesh.

More snow on the way here, but milder. It's gonna be one of those winters...

I feel like we are on the 'fast track' to winter or something. It came so suddenly, Monday there was bare pavement. Then came 12 inches of snow and the usual winter stuff that goes with it.

Now they say it's warming up, but it snowed once again and there's a chance for freezing rain here too.

At least I got to try out my new winter jacket.

The yard is pretty well ready for winter. After I shovelled snow on Tuesday I spent a bit of time wrapping the more tender cedars, dwarf AB spruces, etc. I finished mulching stuff last weekend, just in time.

From a garden perspective I suppose it's a good thing that we got a deep snowcover before this mini cold snap. On the negative side, they said that because there is snow on the ground, we likely won't see anymore extreme warm temperatures (like the +12 last friday). It's suppose to be +4 and rain tomorrow though.

Coldest we've had here in my location near Edmonton is -10c ... and now tonight it's a balmy +10c. Today was beautiful sunny and mild and tomorrow is gonna be great! Finally some good weather for Alberta!

Well, no, darn it. That's our deep freeze. We've had those cold temps for the past couple of weeks and I was almost getting the skating area going. Now, I've got mush going out there with a temp of 34 C. at 8:30 in the evening. It was like breakup driving around this afternoon. It's going to be icy when we freeze back up.

When are they going to plow our streets??? I heard on the news that the City still had 40% of its snow clearing equipment rented out to highway repair sites when the snow came.

And now it's 8C and sunny. I just saw a fly buzzing around outside and our street is a sheet of solid ice.

Today it reached +++++++15C, can you believe that!

Excuse me, the radio just said that we reached +17! Wouldn't this be nice if we had temps like this right up till Christmas ;)

+18deg C. when we left work at 5:00 this afternoon!! Yikes!

Ah, you guys have all the luck.

For sure. It's snowing again here!

Todays +19c was the WARMEST temperature I have seen in this location during winter! (I'm 75 miles nw of Edmonton) It was actually warmer than many days we had experienced this past summer! Of late we've seen many very mild winters in Alberta, though indeed some awful summers!

Today as I had been cutting back the clematis for winter, I was very surprised to see that several have popped with all sorts of fresh new growth! Really nice to be getting back outside and finishing up some of the yard chores ... but, how long can it hold out?

I never thought I would say this but, "I'm jealous of your weather." It had been very warm here most of Nov. in the 50's and 60's. But, its been unseasonably cold down here the past week... A high of 31F today and 29F tomorrow... and 3-6 inches of snow... Last week we had a low of 18F, two degrees away from setting a record... Can you Albertans send us some Alberta heat instead of those Alberta Clippers?

Well, the WARM weather in the west in now coming to an end ... sure was GREAT while it had lasted! We are now approaching the shortest days of the season and indeed look forward into the New Year and the gradual upward climb. The seed catalogues have begun to arrive giving me some food for thought for the coming spring.

HOPE the winter wonÂt be too hard and the summer of 2006 will be a good one here in Alberta!

It's getting MILDER again in the west ... thank goodness! The arctic blast has now plummeted down well into the USA.

It's + 11 c and the snow is now just about history, till the next storm anyways!

    It's beautiful out there!

Did anyone else get that warm weather last week or so then it is back to normal again? We had puddles in the street, that is how warm it got here... Lol, the radio called it a "heat wave" when it was around 38 degrees :p

back to normal??? its 39 at my house (west anchorage) right now... :( there goes all our snow

It's back to COLD here now in Alberta ... but. last weeks very strong chinook winds had quickly eaten up the snow! We had topped out in the low 50's ... though, now it's really COLD!

Fortunately, looks like milder temperatures are soon set to return, thankfully! Love the mild conditions, though it's NOT good being without the snows to protect things when our temperatures do plunge!

I know what you mean, right now I have a puddle forming on my walkway but the snow cover is holding it owns right now thankfully! I live on Tudor.

I thought it was going to stay cold but must have read the forecasts wrong! :p

Terry, that's for sure the temps are sure jumping around, nice one week, cold the next week and now starting to get nice again. Here too, hardly no snow, good thing I mulched my tenders with straw.

Hopefully it will be nice and mild with some snow for Christmas!

Marcia, are you hogging all the snow!

    Sharon

Oh yeah. We've been getting it in dribs and drabs almost every day. Our long range forecast for Christmas Eve says rain and +1°C. We'll see about that!
