Marg, at times I've even come across different varieties of hoyas at Walmart, Home Depot and Rona.

I've been to those places and looked but none of them had any. Maybe I was just there at the wrong time. Most of what they carry around here are orchids, philodendrons, or seasonal plants. On the Hoya forum, I was told that the Walmart over there carries them. Thought I would go in after Christmas and check out all these and see what I can get. Thanks. Marg

I never buy houseplants at big box stores anymore. They're always infested with bugs.

I had a heck of a time finding a hoya here. The garden centres only bring them in once or twice a year, and they sell out in days. They're quite popular but for some reason supply is limited. ZZ plants were the same way for a while too.

Shazam: I agree with you about buying at the Box Stores. I bought an orchid there and then decided to get another. The new ones were infested with mealy bugs.

You should quarantine new plants for an appropriate time from big box stores especially, but it is a practice one should always do whatever the source. Often, small nurseries buy from the same wholesale vendors.

The Minnesota Home Depots have several varieties of Hoya carnosa (the most common species), but also Hoya lacunosa and H. curtsii.

I'm not really concerned with quarantine, they just always seem to have some sort of caterpillar/worm/larvae that crawl out and get onto the floor. Ew.

I've never had bug problems with stuff I buy from garden centres. They just take better care of their stock.
