Nice bloom to that fig and a very distinctive leaf with those serrated edges.....tight eye and no pulp cavity to boot. Very nice looking fig. Does it taste as good as it looks?

Rich tasting fig. One of my favorites. It is commercially grown in the Var (Provence), France.

Leon, that is a beautiful looking purple fig. My questions are always basicly the same, how cold hardy is the Violette Sollies and is any one growing it out doors with success, in the Northeast? Bob

    Hello Leon,
That is one great looking fig. Thanks for posting the beautiful pictures.

I'm not sure how cold hardy it is. It has always been in a container and stored for the winter. This year, I root-pruned it and planted it in the ground. It will be interesting to see if anyone else has this same fig.
Ed: Thanks. Some of the first figs this tree produced were quite large and dark purple (almost black). I wanted to contrast a red and a blue fig and that's why I included the Palermo variety in the photo.

Leon, the one you sent me has been growing in the open ground for the past couple of years. It produced the first time for me last year. Generally it's been fairly hardy--tho it's in a moist piece of ground where other figs freeze back more readily than in dry ground. This past winter however it did get frozen back to the ground, but regrowth has been strong. The new growth hasn't fully lignified, so may not make it through this winter either. No fruit this year.

    Hi Leon,
As was your experience, I found them to be very good. I have a small start of the tree that I'll plant in a drier area of the orchard next spring to help with hardiness issue.

Leon , the fig looks nice and you describe the taste as rich which to me personally is the best of the best a rich not just plain out sweet but thats just speaking for myself as first introduced as a small child thats what i first tasted a rich fig more so than very sweet fig. Anyways this forum gave me trouble yesterday with its login problems but always seems so slow for me to get it to load PERIOD that aside how did it rank to your palate compared to your other plants this year.
