Hi Stevin,

I used to store my figs in my backyard shed and it was almost 100% loss for a couple years. I think it was also due to inexperience too.

The last three years I have been storing my figs ( approx. 150 in various sizes )in my attached garage.

I use an area 12'x6'.
I place the 15gl. ones first lines up in the first layer and then I place the smaller ones on top and so on so forth.
They get watered on an avg. two weeks apart. just to keep the roots from drying out.
I cover them with a tarp to keep the wind from hitting them when the garage door is opened.

I live in Michigan just outside of Detroit. You did not say where you are from and this can play an important roll.

Sorry for not including pictures, lost them with my last laptop.

I store al the fig trees in the green house I keep the temp under 40 from late Dec to end of Januart then I WOKE THEM UP february first by raising the temp gradually to 75. They get out of the green house after all the danger of frost is gone usually late April and early may. At that time they are carrying lots of little figs.

i live in massachusetts. so what i'm planning on doing is placing the trees in my unheated detached garage. the garage is constructed of concrete blocks on a concrete slab. the garage does stay warmer than the outside temps mostly due to the sun warming the block walls during the day. as cold as it gets, i've never had anything in the garage freeze. i'm thinking of putting the trees along the south facing wall as the sun warm up the blocks for most part of the day.
i was planning on tieing up the branches and wrapping the trees w/burlap or even those padded movers blankets. mothballs scattered around the trunks along with snap traps. would this be enough protection? should i raise the pots off of the cement floor? should i wrap something around the pots themselves?
