'Cherry Bomb' fig

Here are pictures of an unidentified fig that has turned out to be on my top five list (easily). Before knowing better I ordered a "Green Ischia" from TyTy. In the trees second year it fruited, and it wasn't Green Ischia (it is probably Celeste - although the figs are suspiciously pyriform in shape). I called TyTy, and they agreed to send me a replacement Green Ischia. Since I believe they just go grab any fig tree they happen to have in the size ordered, they sent me this tree (in 2005). Of course, it also was not Green Ischia. However, in this case I'm glad things worked out the way they did. I told Leon about the shape of the figs, and he used a term that sent me back to childhood and early adolescence memories of getting into trouble: he said: "so, they look like cherry bombs, huh?". So, until I can identify them with certainty they will remain my Cherry Bomb fig. Whatever they are, these figs are just great. The figs in the pictures were the first ones to ripen this year. The later ripening figs were MUCH darker in color on the outside and more amber on the inside. I didn't have identification on my mind when I took these pictures. Therefore, I failed to take pictures of leaves. Also of note is that last year, this tree's first year to fruit, the figs were very different in color. The outside was markedly striped - purple and green - when completely ripe. Also, the pulp was solid red - not a dark red but solid red all the same. This year the figs were almost completely purple outside with pulp what was more amber in color. They were also MUCH better tasting this year. Last year they had a lot of flavor, but the sweetness wasn't there. This year they were as close to perfect as I can imagine.
