How do you know they are the same kind. How do you know the two bushes were propaginated the same way. May the producers were done right and the other one is a male or produced from seed. What the nurseries do is a crime They label their trees by fictitious name and the poor consumer will know the bad news 3 or 4 years later. I have fig trees which I spent money time and efforts to raise them bought from a nursery called Willis they produce lots of figs which never ripen because the trees were raised from seeds and are not self pollinating. I Have other trees doing fine were bought from other nurseries or air-layered by myself. It frustrating but that is what we have to live with. How can I go to a nursery 4 years later and tell them you sold me bad trees. If you bush still refuse to produce you have the option of using the chain saw, or use it as rootstock and pro-paginate it from the good bush or just leave as ornamental . I followed the three option on my bad trees.

Thanks Abe for your response. Both came from cuttings I got from a friends tree that was and is a healthy producer.

One point I did not mention . Last year I used the green leaves of the non producing bush to make a big supply of dehydrated fig leaves for tea. The other, the producer, was not touched for that. Could this have any bearing on its lack of fruit production?

Interesting situation....

If the trees ARE exactly the same, and the culture is the same, then the only variable in the equation is the reduced number of leaves only on one of the trees. It's possible that the stored energy was less on one tree, and that's the one that didn't perform as expected.

Give it a year to play catch-up, and I'm sure it will self-correct.

However....this is just speculation.
