Just wanted to mention the kitchen is 20 foot by 12 foot and the island is 9"11" by 4'5". I have the island deisned like a table and it has a prep sink in it. It will seat 6.

Do you have a picture of the flooring or cabinets?
Lightening the island might be an excellent idea if your floor is dark along with your cherry cabinets.
As for the Pantry door, I think it should be the same as all of the other doors in the house, I wouldn't match it to cabinets.

If you are looking to do an authentic craftsman, I would keep the cabinetry all the same. I do, however, love mixing up the cabinetry/island finishes.

Have you been happy with the choices you have made with your designers advice and direction? He or she would have reasons why this suggestion was made, I would suggest you continue onwards with the guideance you are getting and have a discussion about why you are hesitant to follow their advice on this. If you are not happy speak up, as designers we want to make you happy! We do also have a clear vision based on your wants and needs and should give you the design rationale for our suggestions.

Yes, do the color on the island. For one thing, it will break up all the wood. What will your countertops be and will the island and the perimeter be the same? Since you are designing it like a table, also, it won't be a HUGE block of color in the middle of the room (and it is a fairly large island). As far as the pantry, are you using cabinetry which will be visible from the kitchen, or is it a regular door? If it matches the cabinetry, you could go in either direction (stain or paint). I think part of that decision rests with how visible it will be from the dining room, and what the feel of that room will be. Since you are working with a designer, I would rely on their advice, since they have the larger view of the entire project.

I agree with Chandani, If you are going for an authentic Craftsman then keep the cabinets all wood. Otherwise paint the island or not depending on what you like best. I prefer to keep cabinets and islands uniform as it looks more classic and timeless to me. But I know it is a trend these days to mix colors and finishes for islands, so I'm definitely in the minority in my preferences.

So, if you go with color on the island, what color are you thinking of? Your granite is very pretty but also has a lot of color and movement in it - another reason, I think, to tie it in through color on the island!

The color we like is by sherwin williams. It is called either tavern taupe (SW7508) or tiki hut (SW7509). I can't decide and am open to other suggestions too. Again, should I color butler pantry cabinets same as island or same as kitchen? Another big decision.

I love when the wood colors are broken up. I would maybe do a espresso or lighter version of a black.

Another color option is SW Sawdust (SW6158).
