The limbs you can prune anytime. I prefer to prune most limbs when they are dormant and some in late winter. I find the late winter pruned limbs are usually better for rooting. I root prune most times in late winter/early spring. Eight years is a long time to go without prunning both limbs & roots. There are lots of information regarding root prunning in this forum.

Hello, I'm new to the forum but not new to figs. We've had fig trees for over 30 years and all of a sudden, (it seems) two of the fig trees have gotten huge and unmanageable. I am thinking I want to cut them both down to 6 feet high, which will result in a huge amount of limbs and debris. Any advice?
One of my figs is a southern variety and hates where I live, but it is from my grandmother; while the other one is very happy in the Pacific NW

My advice to both of you is to upload some pics and more detail on the quality of figs you're getting from them....then offer them to those of us looking to expand on varieties. :D
