Japanese Knotweed (mexican bamboo)

Does anyone in Zone 6 have this plant? It dies back to the ground in the winter and grows to about 6 feet in the summer. Flowers are pink (I think this is a female plant) and look like fringe when you stand back from the plant. Oldtimers around here call it a flowering bamboo
