I saw this on the web (a nursery) Is this true about how to prepare your fig trees for winter?

Texas Ever-Bearing - Large size, brown to purple amber flesh. High quality fig. More susceptible to cold damage than others. Excellent for preserves. We also find by cutting tips of each branch or limb off about 6 inches it will allow sap to flow out the end. This will make trees go through the winter much better. Zones 6-9.

A long time ago, I did hear of cutting fig twig tips in order
to 'bleed' off the sap, and helping winterizing.
It was not proven/tried by me; but I have SEEN such
pruned and winter-protected fig twigs that were winter-killed.

So, my guess is that this theory does not hold...

I thought that by pruning now you are encouraging sap flow which is the exact opposite of what you want. I could be wrong but I would rather get the fig into dormancy as soon as possible than have the sap flowing which could lead the fig suceptible to being killed by the cold.
