Aldo is also known as "Palermo Red", and is of an Italian
origin (not Greek, as was originally assumed/thought) see:

Are you saying that Aldo is producing for you NOW? If so, I a floored!

When do your brebas begin ripening? Do you have it in a pot? When does your main crop begin to ripen?

You are somewhere around Albany, right?

I think Aldos does better in a larger pot. I didnt up pot mine and it really did not grow. I may just put it in the ground.

Checking previous posts on Aldo's fig, I can't help but to answer this post by saying that it stands in a class all by itself, easy to grow and it does not need much help in growing. I dug out a six inch stub with two small roots attached last winter in Wildwood N.J. and I was able to reap four nice size figs on a five foot tree this fall. Thanks Leon in helping to ID this fig. Sergius, 4 figs on a 5 foot tree dosent seem too prolific but the fact that it grew 5 feet from a 6 inch stub is pretty amazing. How was the taste and did it split on you?

It does seem that Wildwood have Hotter Sommer than Willingboro, and is only about 50 miles south of me.
Mine had fruits but never got ripe this year.
The Sommer was very cold here so i do not blame the tree, this year.
I had many more varieties that did not ripe this year.
I hope next year, will be Hotter,so i can get some fully ripe fruits.
It did not ripe in 2008 eather, because it was rainy and cold too.
I hope this will change, next year.

My tree will start its fourth year in the spring. However, it is still in a pot and still immature. The brebas didn't ripen this year, but the main crop figs were great. Fortunately this year we didn't get any heavy rain during the critical ripening period for this fig, so the figs ripened beautifully. This is a special fig to me not only because of the quality of the fig but because it came from a special "fig friend", Leon, who unwittingly (but patiently) became a mentor for me years ago as I was learning a little about collecting and propagating figs. Thanks Leon for patiently answering all those (long) emails. My wife would say you helped create a monster :)

Yup, this variant came highly recommended from Leon. I got a plant this year and hope to sample some goodness this coming season.

Henry, thats funny. I would put my blame on Jon for creating the "monster".

Henry, You so funny/right! At least now, I know that I am
not the only one that has created an-out-hand-addictive
big-fig-collection. I am sure that there are many more
other fig-nuts the feel that same way.
