Four Season Vegetable Gardening

planting a followup to garlic

I have a small bed dedicated solely to my garlic, which I am growing for the first time. I have scapes now, so I'm guessing that I'll harvest sometime in the next few weeks. It seems a waste to leave that small bed unoccupied until Oct., when I plant the garlic again. The rest of my garden already has 5 tom. plants, 7 peppers, 6 beans, 4 cucs. 4 broccoli, some shallots and tons of green onion. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can plant in the garlic bed until I'm ready to put in more?

Thanks, I may try the chard and some squash. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

As we pulled our garlic over the last two weeks, we replaced it with winter squash -- butternuts and "pumpkin squash" -- both C. moschata, so they are resistant to squash vine borers.

Thank you all so much. I got advice from friends, too, and I think I've decided to put in lettuce, spinach, broccoli rabe, and butternut squash. I hope this all works, as this will be the first time I've done multiple season gardening. Thanks for the tips.
